Compared to those who have been 'into dogs' for most of their lives, I've been making up for lost time in the last two decades.  A native of Southern California, I spent 25+ years in the corporate IT world, living in other cities, traveling throughout the U.S. and internationally.  But, with corporate downsizing at its peak in 2007, I made the decision to walk away from a life of technology and the corporate world to focus on all things DOG.

But let's back up a bit...   While slogging away in the corporate world, I had the good fortune to meet a man who loved dogs as much as I do.  We married, picked the breed (German Shepherds), then bought a house and a vehicle to go with it.  Five months later we got our first GSD, Boomer, and we haven't looked back!

Boomer was soon joined by Rosie, who later trained Dorie, who then trained QuBit.  In between, Uta joined the family as a rescue dog we knew from our therapy dog group in Washington state, along with a several senior GSD rescues needing a temporary or hospice foster home.  The current queen of the household, Dorie, joined our family in 2009 and while training her in obedience and sheep herding, I learned about a new and exciting sport:  K9 Nose Work®.  Dorie and I began training in the sport and soon we were competing in trials and earning titles and, more recently, adding tricks and therapy dog work to our repertoire.

I am a CNWI (Certified Nose Work Instructor) with NACSW teaching K9 Nose Work® for 7 years. I am also an AKC Scent Work judge, an instructor/evaluator for the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy® Program, AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certifications as well as certified instructor/evaluator for both DMWYD and AKC's Trick Dog programs.

When not teaching, training or competing in dog sports, I am an active volunteer for Thulani Senior German Shepherd Rescue® (www.thulanidogs.org) whose mission is to save senior and terminally ill German Shepherds, and provide medical treatment or hospice care for them in a loving home for their remaining life.  Our family has been blessed by several rescue senior GSDs who gave and taught us much in their short time with us; a truly rewarding experience.
